Dual credit programs are ministry-approved programs for high school students that are offered through colleges. Once completed, students are given credits towards their high school diploma as well as college credit.
Dual credit allows students to sample college or trades and apprenticeship industry-specific courses. Students get to explore career options and experience what it would be like to be a college student. Student supports are provided on campus and through school board dual credit teachers.
Students interested in exploring dual credit should speak with their guidance counsellor as the dual credit program is assessed on a case-by-case basis.
Since 1997, the SCWI has funded activities that support students in secondary school and helped with the transition to post-secondary education. The dual credit program is an example of the initiatives funded by the SCWI that support student success.
